SURFACE: Handwoven cotton/hemp cloth with clearly visible warp-and-weft weave, slightly uneven slubs, one hand-hemmed selvedge edge. The image is made by wax resist - deep indigo dyed ground with the design left as undyed off-white cloth. The signature of real batik must be everywhere — CRACKLE VEINING (冰纹) - a fine irregular web of thin indigo lines where the hardened wax cracked and dye seeped into the fractures, denser in the large indigo fields.
