SURFACE: Handwoven cotton/hemp cloth with clearly visible warp-and-weft weave, slightly uneven slubs, one hand-hemmed selvedge edge. The image is made by wax resist - deep indigo dyed ground with the design left as undyed off-white cloth. The signature of real batik must be everywhere — CRACKLE VEINING (冰纹) - a fine irregular web of thin indigo lines where the hardened wax cracked and dye seeped into the fractures, denser in the large indigo fields. All drawn lines are hand-pulled with a copper wax-knife - slightly wobbling, varying in thickness, with tiny wax blobs and skips where the tool lifted. Motif vocabulary is folk-geometric - concentric spirals, whorl rosettes, banded borders, stylised birds and butterflies, sawtooth and dot-row fills. Palette strictly limited - deep indigo blue, undyed off-white cloth, and a small amount of madder red as the ONLY warm accent. Soft even daylight, cloth lying flat with very slight fabric undulation.
