Ukiyo-e Woodblock

Ukiyo-e Woodblock

Woodblockjapancarvedflat-colorwaves

Carved ukiyo-e woodblock — flat inks, keyline, Edo restraint.

Swatch shows the same line — Signal over noise — rendered in this material, so the surface is the only variable.

Prompt formula

SURFACE: Carved and printed, NOT painted — hard-edged flat colour areas with hand-cut key-block outlines that show slight chatter, faint wood grain printed into the broad colour fields, bokashi gradient wipes in sky and water, one or two colour plates printed a hair off register. Mulberry paper fibre visible. Muted natural pigments - indigo, tan, persimmon orange, sumi black, one soft sage. Explicitly not a soft Chinese ink wash — no bleeding, no wet blending, no misty gradients. Hero - one great cresting wave carrying three carved pavilion-boats, each boat bearing its label on a small carved cartouche. Title cut as bold hand-carved characters inside an inked vertical block at one side, like a printed title cartouche.
SKELETON: auto by page role (cover / chapter / list / compare)
DEVICE: the page's argument drawn as a form native to this material
END: Full-bleed 16:9 — render DEVICE on the SURFACE, per the page's composition.
CRITICAL: title in clean legible English; NEVER invent extra words or non-English glyphs;
annotations only as marks / numbers / dimension lines; no UI, no cards, no captions.
